Motor Scooters Worldwide

Mopeds (PTW) is still similar to those made in the 1970s?
I was originally interested in purchasing a 50cc scooter to commute to college every day as the weather is nice, but after discovering how they can get pricey (especially for a decent brand), I decided I was not willing to pay much for a seasonal form of transport. Instead, I am interested in finding a real moped similar to that first made in Europe and then worldwide in the years 1960-1980. I'm not looking for a pedal bicycle with a motor just added on, but an actual gas-powered moped. Some brands I've found, vintage and new Indian, Solex, and Tomos. I do not want anything big and bulky, or larger than 50cc. I am looking for a "newer" (not made in 1974, but 1970 style) moped for under $ 500 - $ 600. Are there other companies that the older style mopeds for use in the United States today? Here is a example of what I am looking for: http://archive.liveauctioneers.com/archive4/cowans auctions/18960/0273_2_lg.jpg * ~ Thank you.
Gee ... I would really like to help. But you posted your question in the cycling section - BICYCLES. Before asking a question, look around at the bottom of the page for the correct section. In this case - Cars Engines & Transportation then.
