Who would have thought that there is a similarity between a motorcycle and riding a horse ...!! Let's face it on a motorcycle ECU for brain and heart of the engine driver full control of direction. The horse, on the other hand, has a real brain and real heart. Brain can sometimes disagree with the rider in more than one way, in terms of direction.
Why compare? Well, I was recently in London and lucky, lucky to visit the Household Cavalry barracks in Knightsbridge in London's West End. Invitation for the regiment extended to me Regimental Corporal Major Spencer B Taylor Esq., O auspices of viewing a very traditional changing of the guard between the two sections Regiment, Guards and Blues and Royals. Upon arrival, I was very impressed to see the vast amount of parked motorcycles on campus. A little investigation of why so many machines were in one place than was needed.
Answer was ... commute. That was basically the main reasons for all the different machines, Harley Davidson, Yamaha R6 is Honda Fireblades all the way down to a Vespa scooter. They were all there. I was lucky enough to see changes guard the place and then I was able to catch Rupert Hackman, Gene AKA his comrades, Corporal Staff Staff Riding the Household Cavalry Regiment driving.
Yamaha R6 Rupert travels to work, and then goes Cavalry beautiful black horse stands at about 16.5 hands high on the day of his work.
AABikes: Q: How long have you been riding?
Gene: 2 years.
AABikes: Tell me to commute, how long and where?
Gene: I come, most of which comes the guys down the M4 Windsor, about 25 miles away. It's about 40 minutes in the car, at around 6 am, but in the evening it can take up to 3 hours depending on traffic. That is why I ride a bike. I can do it in no time.
AABikes Why bike here in the UK vary from car to commute?
Gene: Well, firstly, we can filter over the operation here. I can not miss any traffic jams here for home. Also, we do not have to pay 8.00 pounds (depending on the course of a total 16.00 dollar) congestion charge on the bike, and I save a fortune on gasoline. The only thing that is wet when it rains I get every second day.
AABikes: Did you see the relief operation, since the congestion charge was introduced in place?
Gene: No. Definitely not. Everything done is pressed against a peak before 7am. Comes into place at 7 am and people stay later at work after 6pm after its completion. It has made traveling home on Friday afternoon, more pleasant because I think more people cramming in more hours a week and work from home on Friday.
AABikes: Why did you choose to commute to the R6?
Gene: Recommendations from a farrier, I bought my original wheel off. I have direct access test, which enabled me to ride any size motorcycle a test I so I jumped right on the R6 and loved everything about it.
AABikes: Is there any similarity between his bike and his work method of transportation - horse?
Gene: Yes Believe it or not! I just passed my test 2 years ago and the balance and direction from the horse went directly into cycling. You're right horse with the legs and use the legs, knees and body direct and motorcycle. The amount of riding I've helped me learn to ride a bike, I also thought I had nothing to worry about how I could go a horse, a horse has a brain and can sometimes disagree with where you want to do, I do not think the fight round. On the other hand, the horse has four legs and not low in a corner.
AABikes: Have you captured his R6 on the track?
Gene: No. But I know if I did I would depend, I was in a musical ride on horseback and when it has to count?
So you see, believes, Gene did use their riding skills, he rode a motorcycle test!
I would like to thank Regimental Corporal Major B Spencer Taylor & the invitation, and Rupert Hackman, for giving me your time while sitting in the dining room the NCO. Changing of the Guard is one of the most impressive tradition in British Army.
