Scooters and the laws in Indianapolis?
Since gas is so expensive, and is a graduate student, I have limited financial means. I was thinking about buying a 50cc scooter with a 150cc engine. But I'd like to know the laws in Indiana for both. How fast the engine 50cc go when the rider is heavy? 150cc is worth it? or 50 cc?
Most states allow bikes under 50 cc to be licensed as moped. To operate a moped all you need is a moped brand bike and a regular driver's license. Most mopeds get about 90-100mpg, but have limited scope for small-gallon fuel tank. Maximum speed is limited by restrictions on the bike, but restrictions can be easily removed, the wheel well perform. Restricted round will have a maximum speed from 25 to 30 mph, but not limited to cycling, the highest in the vicinity of 40 to 45 mph. Got was quickly on my Honda Elite SA50-regular basis. You asked for heavier riders, but did not weight. Since the weight is variable, I can do only guess that the limit will be the best moped around 35 to 40 mph. If this is a big variable, then the 150cc scooters to be better choice. With a 150cc bike, you will need a confirmation of your motorcycle license, insurance, and motorcycle plates on scooter. It is also wise to motorcycle safety class (even if it's just a scooter), just in case. Maximum speed 150cc scooter is around 55 to 60 mph. Again, these bikes are limited in scope from small fuel tanks, but the 150cc scooters can still get 70-80mpg (possibly more depending on who you listen). If you plan to just scooting around town and short hops to school / work on the roads Back 50cc scooter / moped will do just fine, but if you travel long travel long distances and have to deal the operation, 150cc or larger scooter is your best bet.
