Hyosung Comet Gt650

With the wheel like Hyosung GT650 Comet prowling the streets a little less than eight thousand, I reckon alarm bells in Japan are ringing - and so it should be. Introduced in late 2003, the Comet was Korean manufacturer Hyosung first 'big' bike released on the Aussie market, and it made quite a splash - even if it was home more to do with what the bike represented, rather than what it actually was.

For most of the last 50 years, a non-Japanese Asian motorcycle manufacturers are sleeping giants, but now these giants are waking up. Also, until recently, the company focused on small commute to work, providing transport for the budget large masses of Asia. Cheap labor force and sheer economies of scale can work here, Chinese and Koreans are now building increasingly sophisticated products, much cheaper than their Western counterparts, and when it comes to motorcycles, it is a problem, Japanese manufacturers, particularly would be difficult to fight.

Yet quite a crystal ball - let's get back to the bike, which sent me on this tangent first place. When we are so used to names like Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki, it is understandable that the market could be a little careful something GT650 Comet, given its country of origin and that super-low price. Only one thing can soothe those fears, and this is a test drive - And you just ride on one of them for a short period of time before you start dreaming about what you can buy with cash you saved by buying one of these more than a Japanese competitor. Lots of people were cracking Hyosungs too - more than 2,000 were sold last year, including scooters, roadsters and cruisers, and it is more than 100 percent increase since 2005.

After about the comet for a couple of weeks I have, I understand why it is rapidly gaining in popularity. It's true name is not exactly scream 'Allure', but it really feel like a good, solid machine. Liquid-cooled, eight-valve, 90-degree V-twin, is actually built in Japan, and although is not the same shares very similar design, which is located in the popular Suzuki SV650. This is no coincidence, for both historical society have common cooperation agreement, which dates back to decades.

The engine offers plenty of low-and mid-range punch, but pulls strongly stated its 11,500 rpm. / Min redline in most of its six outlets. This performance is full of energy to help a good frame, suspension and brakes are reasonable, which are more than the task. In fact, it's even a special surprise here - as as inverted forks, which come complete with compression and rebound adjustments, but surprisingly no preload adjustment.

Ride position is relatively upright, as naked as you would expect this, and it's really ideal for nipping through the busy, even its management scope is somewhat limited round of the style. At 100 km / h in the sixth device will pull 4000rpm, so it's relaxed enough for long work, if you feel Braving wind and explosion for a longer period of time, whereas if you really need a bit more protection can always opt for a Tourer GT650S with screen and upper fairing, or GT650R sportsbike, complete with full fairing. Each will set you back an extra $ 1000 for the naked bike is $ 7990 price tag.

Black mark against the GT650 Comet is relatively low. You'll find that the lack of electronic fuel injection it requires a little choked than warm, but not a big problem - it's not too many years ago, that was the case with every turn. The total adjustment is not quite the standard say Suzuki SV650 - and especially an hour I thought looked a bit cheap and robust - but not too far behind. And remember, the comet is $ 1900 cheaper than the SV. The color scheme did not set my pulse racing either. This test was included on the wheel is 'black', but if you looked closely in strong sunlight it was actually a very deep metallic blue. Still, it is only a cosmetic side, and when it comes to what counts - Handling them, stopping them, its engine and its direct value for money - it is a smiley face stamp on each step.

I have think we will see an increasing number Hyosungs on the roads in the coming years, and if the Korean heavyweight controls its western expansion well not be too bizarre to believe that five or 10 years from now it will be rolling a foreign name from the language easier.
