Hip joint is no fun, especially for the fifth time around. Let me explain. At first my husband was right hip replaced. After surgery, he went into rehabilitation for a few weeks, and when he came home, he was quite self-sufficient. A year later was replaced by the left side. Having been through the surgery just a year before he knew what to do to speed up his recovery. We were happy that surgeries behind him and is glad we did. My husband could walk without terrible pain in his hips. Of course we thought This was the end of hip operation.

Approximately 8 years later my husband called me from work because he had a terrible fever and wanted me his sweater. At a time when I should not have done it much sense to him directly to the emergency room of our local hospital. After several hours was found that he had serious Staph infections (MRSA is fortunately) in his left side. Doctors still do not know what caused it. He needed to have left prosthesis and must be removed on antibiotics for 6 weeks. The surgery left him without hip joint, and he was able to move his left leg. Also, that 8 years older than when he first operation, he was not as strong as he was back then. He could get about as alone as the first time. We needed a more gadgets to help with daily tasks.

Getting in and out of the car was suffering because he had to twist and bend to get to the seat. Initially, we put in a plastic bag on the seat make it more slippery, but still crumbling and falling to the floor. Eventually I discovered that instead of rotating bar and a handy gadget to the keep car doors with the aid getting into the car (and cheap). Embarking and disembarking from the car easier and less painful.

After three months we planned an operation to get a new hip joint. Unfortunately, the infection returned, and he had the operation again washed infection and wait another four months, without having hip surgery.

Eventually his surgery, but had to wear braces for 3 months, which again limited his mobility. During that time I began to search for cheap products that help improve his mobility and give me a break. I also found some fun to do to maintain our sanity during the nine months of constant community. Today is walking using the walker and braces will be removed next month. Meanwhile, arthritis in his hands, I caused problems, so I think I need to find a nifty little gadgets to help me!
