Hello from Montreal - Part 11 - Chat with André Giroux - Owner about Roule Bicyle Rentals

July 1, 2006

I was very pleased guided bicycle tour with Ça Roule and Bruno, a licensed city guide in Guidatour really introduced Montreal up close to us. And my own independent study bicyle trail along the Lachine Canal introduced me to the side of Montreal I've never been exposed. After returning to the bike all day Exercise I wanted to find out more about who is behind this operation, Ça Roule, or Montreal on wheels, as is known in English.

Montreal, incidentally, is a fabulous city to explore by bicycle. Old Port area, along the cycle path network along the Lachine Canal and the St. Lawrence River, as well as the islands of Ile St. Hélène Parc Jean Drapeau and the St. Lawrence are extremely bikeable. Of course, trail network on Mont Royal adds also some interesting terrain for cycling enthusiasts, and many quaint neighborhoods Montreal lend themselves perfectly to appear en Vélo. Montreal was actually voted No. 1 city for cyclists in 1999, Bicycling magazine.

Ça Roule is a Touring Bicycle Shop is located at Harbourfront boulevard to 27 De La Commune Est. André Giroux, owner, created the company 12 years ago. He originally studied law and spent 7 years as a lawyer specializing in litigation and legal advice for large real estate developers. As an avid sports person, André played hockey and tennis and really enjoyed the bike and in 1994 he decided to open a small shop which rents initially focused on hiring roller skates, big fever in mid-1990. His original stable device also 12 bicycles. Meanwhile, a fleet has grown to more than 70 bicycle tours which include bicycles, tandems, trail bikes, electric bikes and electric scooters. His store Children also rent trailers and child carriers.

I asked him what he called "Ça Roule 'really means and explained that the French word literally means "that is rolling, but it is generally understood as' it be well, "it runs fine." He explained that his shop specializes in customer service, its employees with knowledge, and are available to provide advice for all types of cycling activities in and around Montreal. Everyone gets equipped with a city-wide Cycling Map and free bottle of water is included in every tour.

His customers come from all over the world, including USA, Canada and the rest of the various European countries. Even the Australian, Korean and Japanese travelers car muscle-powered devices from him and many of his clients are referred by hotels and tourist offices Montreal. Furthermore, it also offers bicycle repair, and some his clients included repair of 3500 permanent residents, who now lives in Old Montreal, or employees who work in Old Montreal and then to travel by bike.

Ça rule has six employees: two technicians repairing bicycles and four tour leaders. Recently, she began working with Guidatour and two related companies have developed Official City Tour by bike is that led by licensed guides. This morning I took part in the official tour of the city and in my view, the discovery City bike must be one of the best ways to discover a new place.

In all the north country, horse bike business is seasonal, and the Ça Roule season goes from May to October and sometimes extends into November, depending on the weather. During the winter André is working to update the site and preparing strategies for the next business year and last year had a chance to go to Florida for 3 weeks. During the summer is very busy shop and André and his staff work very had, but trying to go out on the bike in the evening 7 to 8 hours. Loves to cycle over the islands of Montreal: Ile St. Hélène and Jean Drapeau Park.

André also pointed out that Ça Roule is able offer their own cycling trips. One group of people asked to start the tour at the top of Mont Royal. So I rented a cargo van and carted several rounds to the top of the mountain, so the tour group could begin to ride on their intended starting point. All types specific tasks can be done, it might just need a little notice to organize.

With all this exercise I was ready for a solid dinner, so I thank Andre for his time and for application to the Official Guide City Tour, one of the best ways to know the city and further my exploration Montreal, Canada Day.
