49cc scooter gas motor?

Hi, I'm looking for some scooters on the internet and 49cc petrol scooter engines. There, mopeds. I heard from a friend who is street legal if they are under 49 cc. He said that varies in different States. Oh yes, I live in Maryland and I am 12 years old, so my dad needs proof before lets me get one. Please help Thanks! Oh yes, if you know any sites that say that you are allowed then please post it. Thanks!

It seems that you have to wait until the 16th birthday. Maryland statutes: 11-134.5. Motor scooter. (A) In general .- "snowmobile" means a vehicle that nonpedal: (1) In place of the operator, (2) has two wheels, one of which is 10 inches or more in diameter, (3) To step through chassis, (4) Does the engine: (i) with a rating of 2.7 brake hp or less, or (ii) If the engine is a combustion engine with a capacity of 50 cubic centimeters piston displacement or less, and (5) It is equipped with an automatic transmission. 16-104.2. Moped operator's permit. (A) The minimum age and persons who no license .- At the request of the Administration to issue a moped operator's permit to a person who is 16 years and older, and who is not valid driving license issued in this State or other jurisdiction, but whose license or authorization to drive is revoked, suspended, refused or revoked. (b) .- The requirements for issuance of an applicant eligible for a moped operator's permit if the applicant: (1) Passes the examination provided for in § 16-110 (c) (1) of this title and (2) Pays the fees provided in this section. (c) Form and content of the application and authorization .- Each application for a moped operator's permit must be on a form and shall contain the information that management and each requires authorization must be of such size, design and content, which determines management. (f) Fee .- (1) For the issue or renewal of moped operator's permit, the applicant must pay the administrative fee set by the administration. (2) For a duplicate moped operator's permit, the applicant must pay the administrative fee set by the administration.
